True Identity
Personality: Akemi is a very cheerful, playful girl who really just likes to see people smile. She's a very happy child, despite the circumstances, and she always does what she can to help others. Though, at the moment, she can't do much. She keeps a smile on her face so other people don't have to worry about her. Though, she's not very good at keeping secrets because of her social nature. She is not known for getting angry, and in fact she tends to be a mediator sometimes.
She doesn't give up easily, her determination sometimes bordering on stubbornness when she really gets into something. She is really into cleaning up the world, and she likes to help out whenever she can. She likes to start with things she knows she can do, like planting seeds around the Yggdrasil and tending to them so they grow.
Of course, like everyone, Akemi has her fears as well. Mostly she's afraid of the beastkind that live between the Yggdrasil. She hates the thought of never finding her brother, but she knows she can't just go into the Wilds on her own. She doesn't know enough to keep herself safe. And big brother would want her to stay safe.
Religious Beliefs: N/A, it wasn't a religious orphanage
Important Relationships: older brother Hikaru
History: Akemi was born as Lily Kiryu to a Japanese man and an American woman, who already had a young boy of three years old. However, the seemingly happy family wasn't happy for very long. When Lily was only five, there was a car crash that killed their parents. They ended up in an orphanage in the central Chicago area, where they were well cared for. But nobody wanted to adopt them together, which is what they insisted on. Lily and her brother would not be separated.
Lily eventually got used to the orphanage pretty quickly, started playing with the other kids her age. Always under the watchful eye of her older brother. The two were close, always together except at bedtime. And even then, Lily would occasionally sneak into her brother's bed after the headmistress had gone to sleep. But they didn't get in trouble for it, and as they got older Lily stopped sleeping with her brother.
The day of the destruction, the kids at the orphanage had been playing outside. Lily saw the meteors, turned to her brother, and then everything was black.
She woke up next to a big tree, and she couldn't remember much. She did remember her father calling her his Akemi-chan, and so she took that up as her name. She remembers her brother's face, but not his name. She didn't see him nearby, so her only hope was that he was just somewhere else. A man was nearby, and he came over to help her. He told her that he had been a hunter before the Rebirth, and that he liked doing things the old-fashioned way. He gave her a bow like the one he had, and he taught her how to shoot it and even how to carve her own arrows if she needed to. He gave her a quiver of arrows, then told her that he had important people of his own to find, and he left.
The few other people who had woken up by that specific tree all moved on to look for the important people that they had gotten separated from in the Rebirth. So, Akemi took to taking care of herself. After the announcement from the Goddess, she started looking around the remnants of the houses, making sure she was always back at the tree by the time darkness fell. She didn't know about the event with the tower trying to reach the clock in the sky.
In one of the houses, she found a few seed packets. Four different kinds, and two of each. Different foods than the berries that grew on the tree. That night, after she'd gotten back to the tree, she planted the seeds to see whether she could grow anything here.
In another house, there was one tree seedling in a pot, somehow it hadn't been damaged in the destruction. She took it back to the tree with her and cared for it as well as the seeds. In her mind, the best way to fix the world was to simply let nature have it back. Plant things, take care of them, let them grow.
When the seeds sprouted, she made sure to pick out the smallest ones that didn't look like they would survive. After about three months, the plants were big and bearing their fruit, well, veggies. Tomatoes from one bag of seeds, and those she could bring with her when she decided she wanted to move to the next tree. Cucumber from another bag of seeds. Wildflowers from a third bag. The seeds in the fourth bag turned into melon plants.
She packed up a bunch of seeds in leaves from the big tree and put them in the quiver. It was time for her to move on. Maybe someone else would find the tree and the foods that she'd planted, and then they'd do the same thing. She couldn't take the wildflowers with her, she didn't want to hurt the flowers. But at least they were pretty. She held the tree seedling in her hands, and made her way to the next tree.
This continued on for about a year, and she was lucky. She managed to avoid most of the monsters that she'd heard about from the people who she'd met along the way. It was a bit lonely, but at the end of that first year, she found out that the plants were growing faster than they had at the beginning. It took her a while to realize that she was the one making the plants grow faster. So THIS was her power! Or, well, her gift. But it only worked if she had a crystal either on her person, or nearby. She made sure that she always had one with her.
She learned from the people she met, and she taught them things too. How to grow the plants, how to care for them. She found that other people had found other seeds, things like strawberries and grapevines were growing around other big trees. She took seeds from each of those and grew them at the other trees she found along her way. She wasn't sure what kind of tree she'd found in that one house, and was excited to figure it out.
It took her two years to finally reach what had been Chicago, what was now Miracle. The seedling that she'd been carrying around was getting too big for the pot, so the first thing she did was go to the life tree and replant the seedling. Around it, she planted the other seeds that she'd gathered in the two years of travel. Cucumber, tomato, two different kinds of melon, strawberries, grapes, and a few others. She did her best at sticking with seed-bearing foods, things that could be shared and replanted if other people decided to leave Miracle.
She lives on her own, but she's not afraid of being alone. She knows that her brother will, one day, find her. And she is willing to teach anyone who takes an interest in the plants that she is growing. After all, she may have planted them, but she intended them to be for everyone.

"You're my Akemi-chan, don't ever forget."
"Hurry up! If we're late, the headmistress will get mad again!"
She yawned and stretched, using her arms to push herself into a sitting position. She rubbed the sleep from her eyes and forced them open, then closed them against the light. Why was it so bright...? She slowly opened her eyes again, feeling the soft grass under her legs and fingers. She turned and saw a huge tree behind her. She yawned again. This had to be a dream. Right? She stood and walked over to the tree, putting one hand on the bark. Oh, those things growing from the branches... She reached up, her fingers brushing the lowest branch. She smiled and grabbed it, pulling herself up and throwing one leg over it. She laughed. This was fun!
She wasn't even bothered by the lack of memory yet. She put her palm on the trunk of the tree and stood up, looking out into the distance. Something in her sank at the sight of the wasteland that lay outside the ring of grass around the tree. Oh, there were other people out there! And most of them were moving! Other people... Her big brother would be out there somewhere! Wait... What was her brother's name...? Come to think of it, what was her name? She remembered a man calling her Akemi-chan, was that her name? Akemi? And that man... Oh... Father! That's who he was! But... If brother had been talking about headmistress... That meant...
She looked down at the gold band on her finger. A gift, that much she knew. It was important. But... Why? A voice came to her mind.
A gift from your father. It said that he wanted to give it to you on your tenth birthday. While your parents watch from heaven, I'm going to be the one giving you this.
Heaven...? So her parents had died years ago then... A gust of wind blew her hair back, and her dress whipped around her legs. Well, her brother was out there somewhere! She smiled and reached for the next branch, pulling herself up and sitting with her feet swinging. She spied a round thing and reached for it, pulling it off the tree. It was soft, like a fruit. She bit into it, and found juice running down her chin. She wiped at it before her dress got stained. Can't let headmistress see her with a stained dress, they only got new clothes once a year...
She stopped. Once a year wouldn't happen any more, not here. There's no way that she was anywhere near... Wherever it was. But if she was near the tree, she knew she'd be safe. As long as she didn't hurt herself too bad. She made her way back down the tree, grabbing another fruit and a strange crystal-looking thing on the way. She landed in the soft grass, knees bent, and sat down to think. She had to do something, but what?
