Stats System
In order to preserve the integrity of combat and character progression in Gaia's Wake, Minute Chances has implemented a system of statistics to help players determine things like damage, hit rate, and rate of healing.
Table of Contents:
IMPORTANT NOTE: The stat system is meant to be very simple and only applicable in combat versus other players and staff-controlled enemies/NPCs. You do NOT have to fight every battle using stats. Your character can kill a monster or you can fight another player without touching stats at all, if you so choose. They simply serve as a general means to define the power levels of each character. But for combat-related events, stats will be enforced, including the random variety that could pop out of nowhere in the middle of a thread, so if you don't understand something, PLEASE ask staff to clarify.
The Attributes
There are 4 primary attributes: Strength, Magic Power, Dexterity, and Skill. There are also 6 secondary attributes: Damage, Defense, Magic Damage, Magic Defense, Faith, and Ranged Damaged, which are affected by the 6 primary attributes. Usually, only secondary attributes can be modified by equipment (see Gear & Weapons below)
There is also HP and YP, which are not considered attributes since a player cannot allocate points into them upon level-up.
There is also HP and YP, which are not considered attributes since a player cannot allocate points into them upon level-up.
- Hit Points (HP): Measures the amount of damage a character can take in total, after defense reductions. When reduced to 0, the character is traditionally KO'd, unless the player gave permission to have the character killed. Starting HP and growth determined by Virtue.
- Yggdrasil Points (YP): Measures the amount of magic a character can use before draining their Crystal. Total amount determined by the quality of the Crystal. Characters without a Crystal have 0 YP. CHARACTERS ONLY POSSESS THIS STAT IF THEY CARRY AN YGGDRASIL CRYSTAL.
- Strength (STR): Measures the physical prowess of a character, and affects the character's melee damage (DMG) and physical defense (DEF).
- Melee Damage (DMG): Measures the character's ability to dish out damage close-range. Accounts for all melee weaponry and adds to a melee weapon's damage range, combating the opponent's DEF. On a normal character, for every 2 points of STR, a character receives 1 point of DMG.
- Defense (DEF): Measures the character's ability to withstand physical damages. Accounts for all protective gear and natural defenses. This number is subtracted from any incoming physical damage. On a normal character, for every 2 points of STR, a character receives 1 point of DEF.
- Magic Damage (MDMG): Measures the character's ability to dish out magic damage. Accounts for all magic attacks, and adds to the total damage one may deal using magic, combating the opponent's magic defense. On a normal character, for every 2 points of MPOW, a character receives 1 point of MDMG.
- Magic Defense (MDEF): Measures the character's ability to withstand magical damage. This number is subtracted from any incoming magical damage. On a normal character, for every 2 points of MPOW, a character receives 1 point of MDEF.
- Faith (FAI): Measures the character's ability to heal. Accounts for all curative magics, mostly adding to the amount of hit points a skill can heal On a normal character, for every 2 points of MPOW, a character receives 1 point of FAI.
- Melee Damage (DMG): Measures the character's ability to dish out damage close-range. Accounts for all melee weaponry and adds to a melee weapon's damage range, combating the opponent's DEF. On a normal character, for every 2 points of STR, a character receives 1 point of DMG.
- Dexterity (DEX): Measures the natural speed and accuracy of a character. Every point of DEX is added to a character's Hit Roll, as well as their Evade Roll should they be on the receiving end, increasing their chances to hit or dodge.
- Skill (SKI): Measures a character's ability to do all manner of activities involving non-combative skillsets, such as crafting and potion-making, as well as handle ranged weapons with finesse. Every point of SKI is added to a character's skill roll, increasing their chances to succeed in certain skills.
- Ranged Damage (RDMG): Measures the character's ability to deal damage with ranged weapons. This number, affected by both DEX and SKI, is added to a ranged weapon's damage range, combating the opponent's defense. On a normal character, for every 2 points of SKI, a character receives 1 point of RDMG.
Starting Attributes
Starting out, all characters begin with a 10 in each primary attribute:
STR: 10
DMG: 5
DEF: 5
MPOW: 10
MDMG: 5
MDEF: 5
FAI: 5
DEX: 10
SKI: 10
RDMG: 5
During character creation, the reviewer with add or subtract a certain number of points from these beginning attributes. This is done in two ways:
- Character Experience: The reviewer will use up to 5 points, adding or subtracting from the different attributes depending on the character's past training, body type, and experience.
For example, characters who are built and athletic will probably receive a bonus +2 or +3 STR, while a character who is skinny and not athletic will probably receive a subtraction of -2 or -3 STR. These additions of subtractions will never exceed 5, and unless you portray your character as incredibly damaged, you will receive at least one +1 bonus. - Virtue: Each Virtue has certain modifiers that will be added or subtracted from your character's starting attributes. These can be found below, under 'Virtue Bonuses'.
For example, Industria are naturally strong, and Industria characters receive +3 STR (just for being Industria) On the flip-side, Humilitas are naturally feeble, and Humilitas characters receive -3 STR (just for being Humilitas)
Level Up
Stat Allocation: Every level-up will allow you, the player, to differentiate your character by allocating 5 stat points into any attribute. Level-ups also give you bonuses dependent on your Virtue. (See Virtue Bonuses below)
Skill Points (SP): Every level-up also gives the character 1 Skill Point. Every 5 levels, the character receives 2 Skill Points. the Check the Skills Guide for more information.
When leveling up, please post in your Tracker the allocation of your stat points. Then, tag a staff member using @ follow by their username. For example, tag me by typing @ and then the word 'admin'. The staff
member will then change your mini-profile's attributes to reflect your changes.
member will then change your mini-profile's attributes to reflect your changes.
All Virtues change a character's starting attributes in some way, and provide a starting HP. After leveling-up, Virtues continue to affect the attributes. Here are each Virtue's stat growths, all of which are included here as well.
